General Track and Field Information for 2025
Start date: March 10, 2025 (tentative)
PRACTICE:
Athletes born in 2007 through 2018 are eligible for the MYAA Track and Field program. In other words, track athletes must be turning 7 years old through 18 years old in the 2025 calendar year.
Athletes are grouped by birth year. Practice for each age group will be held twice per week. 8U will practice for one hour; athletes turning 9 and older this calendar year will practice for an hour and a half.
Most practices will be held at Shawnee High School's track (600 Tabernacle Rd.); however, other locations will be utilized when Shawnee is not available, such as Freedom Park or Medford Memorial MS.
It can get chilly at the track, especially in March and April, so be sure your child dresses appropriately. Layers are great.
Athletes should also bring their own water to practice.
MEETS:
Our club participates in the Garden State Track and Field Association along with Camden Clock Chasers, Marlton, RV, South Jersey Track and Field Club, Seneca Youth Track and Field, Thriving Joy, Delaware Elite, Washington Township, and World Athlete.
Meets are typically held on Saturdays at Shawnee or other local venues, but can be scheduled on Friday evenings or Sundays, depending on track availability. The full practice and meet schedule will be available at the beginning of the season on the Team Snap app.
Meets can last several hours, so make sure your child arrives with snacks, plenty of water, and protection from the sun.
Athletes will compete within their own age group for most events. Longer events, like the 3000, are typically run in one or two heats.
Athletes may participate in up to three events. Once your child's last event is over, he or she is free to leave. Be sure to check in with his or her coach before you go.
Meet Events:
Track: 80M Hurdles, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M, 3000M, 4 x 100M Relay
Field: Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Turbo-Javelin, Discus
Note: Some events are age restricted.
Meet Directors may opt not to contest particular events due to time constraints or facility/equipment limitations.
UNIFORMS AND APPAREL:
Every athlete is entitled to a uniform singlet (top).More information about ordering a uniform top is forthcoming.
Shorts should be navy blue. You can purchase shorts through our online apparel store or provide your own. It is recommended that all Junior Olympics Athletes order team shorts.
We will also have an online apparel store where you can purchase additional optional items, like hoodies, sweatpants, etc. through Sports Paradise.
More information on uniform fittings and the online apparel store through Sports Paradise will be available in the weeks to come.
JUNIOR OLYMPICS PROGRAM:
The Junior Olympics program is open to athletes turning 9 or older this calendar year. It includes one additional practice per week (starting in April), and at least one AAU meet after our regular season is over. More information on the Junior Olympics Program will be available once our season begins.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Our program is possible because of our dedicated volunteers. Please consider volunteering to coach or to help at home meets. We can't run our program without our amazing volunteers! No experience is required and we will provide all of the support and training needed to be a coach or meet volunteer. It's truly a rewarding experience and it means so much to our athletes.
CANCELLATION OF PRACTICE:
Practice will cancelled if there is heavy/steady rain for 30 minutes before practice and/or the temperature is less than 40 degrees at the start of practice time. Notice will be given by the coach via Team Snap.
Parents, please use your best judgement in sending your child to practice in case of challenging weather conditions.
