U6 Division (Scoopers) - Lady Renegades
This is the starting point in lacrosse for players aged 6 and under (typically ages 5 and 6). This age group is designed to introduce the basics of our game and build a foundation for future years. In this program the girls will learn the rules of our game as well as how to scoop, cradle, throw, catch, etc… The Scoopers will participate in scrimmages amongst themselves and very often against other programs to practice their skills in a fun “game like” setting. At this level, all players are expected to have equal opportunities at practice and in games.
Age Requirements: 2020 Spring Season
Participation on a U6 team is determined by the player's date of birth. Any player born between September 1, 2013 and August 31, 2014 and is at least in kindergarten may play on a U6 team.
US LACROSSE NUMBERS ARE REQUIRED
In order to meet the requirements of South Jersey Youth Lacrosse League, all players are required to be current members of US Lacrosse, the national governing body of lacrosse. A link to US Lacrosse can be found on the helpful links page or by clicking their logo at the bottom of the page.
Practice
Teams usually practice 1 night per week, and most practices will run about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The team's coaching staff will determine which days and how long the team will practice. Practices typically start in late March/early April and will run thru the end of May.
Practice locations will be determined depending on field availability.
Exhibition Games
Our league, SJYLAX does not typically schedule games between towns with scooper programs. However, our coaches will line up "play days" for our teams to play other scooper programs. These "play days" typically occur in May.
Tournaments
SJYLAX typically does not include the Scooper programs in the end-of-year tournament. If this changes we would certainly add our teams in tot he competition.
Coaching Requirements
All coaches are required to complete the following:
- Background Check
- Rutgers Coaching Safety Certification
- Current Member of US Lacrosse, as a Coach
The coaching staff participates in clinics and workshops throughout the year to improve their overall coaching ability as well as new and innovative methods to improve the skill level of our players. We also strive to enhance the player experience by inviting lacrosse coaches from outside our program to work with our players on specific areas of the game (draws, goalie, defense, shooting).
We encourage players who have graduated from our program, to return and assist the coaching staff as student coaches.
